Good Charlotte’s Joel Madden was on tour last summer with a mission to help raise awareness about the crisis in the Congo among the band’s fans. He couldn’t shake the sense that he should be doing something to help after hearing about violence against women and children in the Congo.
Madden teamed up with HOPE (Helping Other People Everywhere), a nonprofit focused on involving artists and their contributions in campaigns, programs and events to support social projects involving education and world peace.
The collaboration brought together artists, musicians and creatives on May 7th, to the Fred Segal-Conveyor in Santa Monica for the Vice For Nice Poker International co-hosted by Reid Scott and Joel Madden.
Guests mingled with HOPE artists and enjoyed art installations, music and quality tequila tasting by Casa Nobles.
Following the reception, Fred Segal-Conveyor closed its doors to host a private charity poker tournament. The eight tables packed quickly as players bought in for a good cause.
The winners of the tournament chose from donated artwork valued at a minimum of $2000.
The event featured the artwork of Katrina Bea, Jeremy Kenyon Lockyer Corbell, Shepard Fairey, Lola Del Fresno, Andrew Jones, Ellwood T. Risk, The Ultravelvet Collection, Kelly Towles and other artists.
An after party followed at Harvelles Blues.
HOPE is expanding its mission after a potent campaign in 2007 involving the crisis in Darfar. HOPE worked to bring awareness through projects and funds.
